Our Appalachian Story!

I've grown up in southern Appalachia. I've always loved gardening and have always wanted what I had as a child growing up with my grandparents. They were 'The Greatest Generation' and after my grandpa got back from the war they got themselves a couple secluded acres and started homesteading.
By the time I came around they had already gotten rid of all the animals because they were just too old to handle all of them anymore, however; there was several different large gardens, grapevines, and fruit trees and granny had her multiple flower beds.
I was my grannies 'little heathen'; always outside and dirty. She always meant it as a term of endearment. I remember her patting my head and calling me that with a the biggest grin on her wrinkled face. I didn't get as much time with them as I now wish I had. I doubt many of us do.
I've taken those memories and built on them. I truly believe I've married the love of this life. Going on 16 years together, 2 wonderful teens, and a small homestead in a little holler of Appalachia. We have chickens, ducks, turkeys, rabbits, pigs, and one silly goose. We have a veggie garden, several flower gardens, and I have culinary and medicinal herbs growing all over the place. I am always adding more.
We don’t have many neighbors, but when the ones nearby forget to close the gate, their goats and horses sometimes wander into our yard. They know I always have treats for them, so it's a fun surprise when they visit. We also live near a few cattle farms, so we often hear the cows 'talking' to us from down the road.
It's a small slice of a beautiful big ol' pie. It can be rough and tough but it's so very rewarding.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story. I hope that you find something in my store that you enjoy!
